Dr Karl’s Random Road Trip Through Science

DR KARL KRUSZELNICKI

For ages 10-210+.

I’d listened to Dr Karl on Science Hour with Zan Rowe on Triple J for years and was always impressed by his big brain and desire to share his knowledge with others. Working with Publisher Jude McGee is always a joy and this book was my first large project with illustrator Pilar Costabal – who’s sense of humour delighted us all, including top wrangler Lu Sierra and Senior Editor Scott Forbes. Photographer Steve Baccon got us off to a great start with his ability to get the best out of his model. This book is laden with ‘Easter eggs’ so that the Augmented Reality Dr Karl app displays a mini Dr Karl, standing on a page telling us all about something we need to know – like why wombat poo is cube-shaped. I could never have imagined that one day my job would include drawing a wombat’s colon.

“I was very lucky to have Lisa Reidy as my Designer for my last three books. The first two were full-colour and richly textured – and had pop-up holograms (probably a world first). The third was very simple, black-and-white, and very elegant. In each of these very differing styles, Lisa Reidy beautifully integrated the whole look-and-feel to make the books very attractive. She is very professional to work with, and I look forward to her designing my future books. I personally **love** the Hologram books.”
